Bioreactor control systems in the biopharmaceutical industry: a critical perspective

Industrial-scale bioprocessing underpins much of the production pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, food, and beverage processing industries modern world. The profitability these processes increasingly leverages economies scale scope that are critically dependent on product yields, titers, productivity. Most controlled using classical control approaches represent over 90% industrial controls used in industries. However, with advances processes, especially biopharmaceutical nutraceutical industries, monitoring bioprocesses such as fermentations GMO organisms, downstream has become complex inadequacies some systems techniques is becoming apparent. Therefore, increasing research complexity, nonlinearity, digitization process, there been a critical need for advanced process more effective, easier intensification yield (both by quality quantity) can be achieved. In this review, aspects automation along various commercial strategies have extensively discussed to give an insight into future prospects development possible new special focus industry.
